Summary

The main research interests of Catherine R. Weiler, M.D., Ph.D., include diseases resulting from two allergy cells: the eosinophils and mast cells. She is also interested in advancing the quality of care provided to patients and the well-being of patients and providers.

Focus areas

Hypereosinophilic syndrome, eosinophilic gastroenteritis, eosinophilic esophagitis and other eosinophil-associated disorders
Systemic mastocytosis and mast cell activation syndrome

Significance to patient care

Dr. Weiler's goal is to understand the mechanisms that result in eosinophil and mast cell diseases. This understanding will help with future treatment design. Furthermore, understanding in detail the different clinical and laboratory findings will help in early diagnosis and appropriate treatment tailored to the need of each patient.

The improvement in the quality of care provides a safer environment for the patients and satisfaction of their providers.
