Summary

My research interest is in clinical research and particularly randomized controlled trials and case-controlled retrospective studies designed to answer specific questions. The research in these studies will have a direct impact on the practice of colon and rectal surgery.

Current studies include:

  • Evaluation of the efficacy and safety of Seprafilm adhesion barrier in limiting postoperative adhesion formation.
  • Clinical outcomes of appendiceal mucocele.
  • Randomized controlled trial to compare stapled functional end-to-end anastomosis with sutured end-to-end anastomosis following resection for primary or recurrent ileocolonic Crohns disease.
  • Bowel function after ultra-low resection of rectal cancer and radiotherapy.
  • Surgical epidemiology of sigmoid diverticular disease.
  • Staging rectal carcinoma.
  • Oophorectomy in colon and rectal cancer; a prospective randomized study.
  • A prospective randomized trial of intraperitoneal versus extraperitoneal techniques for construction of terminal left iliac fossa colostomies.
