About Dr. Miller![]() A native of Pittsburgh, PA, Dr. Miller attended college at Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, PA, before going to Missouri to earn her Ph.D. in physiology from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. She has held professional positions at the University of Virginia and the University of Delaware before coming to the Mayo Clinic in 1983. She received her Master's of Business Administration from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota in 2003. Dr. Miller served as director for the Office of Women's Health at Mayo from 2001-2005. Her research for the last 20 years has focused on how estrogen affects the heart and blood vessels. She served as a member of the governing council for the American Physiological Society (APS) and is currently President of the Organization for the Study of Sex Differences (OSSD), a professional society of scientists and clinical investigators interested in understanding the biological basis of sex differences in health and disease. As president of OSSD, she serves on the Board of Directors for the Society of Women's Health Research, a national non-profit organization based in Washington D.C., and is widely recognized as the thought leader in research on sex differences and dedicated to improving women's health through advocacy, education, and research. Within the scientific community, she serves on the editorial boards for several professional journals and reviews grant applications for the National Institutes of Health, the Office of Veteran Affairs and the American Heart Association. Dr. Miller is an "empty nester" with two adult children living successfully on their own. For leisure, she enjoys golfing and ballroom dancing. Awards and Honors
