Chronic Renal Disease and DialysisNephrologists in this section provide renal replacement therapy to patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) or Acute Renal Failure (ARF). Mayo supports a large chronic dialysis population with 450 patients at 15 units in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Florida (Mayo Clinic Dialysis Services). The population of patients with ARF in the Intensive Care Units at Mayo Hospitals in Rochester is the largest of any single medical center in the USA. The treatment of ESRD patients also includes the management of complex calcium, phosphorus, and parathyroid hormone (PTH) abnormalities, anemia, accelerated arteriosclerosis, and challenging vascular access problems.
